The idea of the establishment of the conservatory in the capital belonged to the conductor of Bolshoi Theatre F. Scholtz in 1819. Nevertheless, this idea had no reaction that time. Originally, the lessons of musical classes were held in the house on Sadovaya Street in the apartment of N. G. Rubinstein. The number of lessons grew steadily and the acute need of the opening of the musical institution appeared soon. The pleasure of the establishment of it was given by the Grand Duchess Elena Pavlovna in 1865. For the long functioning of the Moscow Conservatory a lot of remarkable musicians and artists, such as Y. A. Bashmet and M. I. Dunayevsky graduated from the conservatory and, later, became the professors of it.

Moscow State Conservatory named for P. I. Tchaikovsky represents the best musicians not only of Russia, but of the whole Europe to this very day. Daily, concerts of the legendary Russian and foreign artists and musical collectives are held in the Big, Small and Rachmaninoff's halls. Indispensable pride of the Moscow Conservatory is the big organ, which was made in Paris with the money of magnate baronage Fon Dervise, who's children studied music at P. Tchaikovsky. The historical value of this organ is equal to the Stradivarius violins.

The State Moscow Conservatory, which was established in 1866 by N. G. Rubinstein, moved to the building on Bolshaya Nikitskaya Street after almost 20 years. This manor house was erected in the end of the XVIII century for the nee countess Vorontsova by the founder of Russian pseudo-Gothic style V.I. Bazenov. After a very short time the old building was demolished, and on its spot the construction of the unique architectural ensemble began. The author of the project was the academician of architecture V. P. Zagorsky, who designed the new ensemble absolutely free of charge. The complex included three educational buildings in classical style and three concert halls, which were the crown of the engineering achievements of that time. The façade wall and the right wing remained from the design of V. I. Bazenov.
